Bringing joy to forgotten senior citizens

This summer, a group of elderly folk who attend the Bread of Life Day Centre in Elbasan, Albania, experienced a long-awaited dream come true. With the support of House of Opportunity partner organisation A2B, they were given the opportunity to participate in a one-week Summer Camp in Paygrades, a beautiful town located on the shores of Lake Ohrid.

They joined activities organised by the Evangelical Church of Tirana, through a kind invitation from Pastor Ermir Taja, who visits and ministers monthly to the elderly at the Day Centre in Elbasan.

During this special week, the “campers” attended Bible teachings, made new friendships, explored the city on foot, relaxed at the beach, enjoyed tasty meals, and were treated with genuine love and care.

“I never even dared to dream of such a vacation,” said Limja, one of the camp’s attendees. “These were the most beautiful days of my entire life. I’ve never been on holiday before, and I had no idea it could be this wonderful!

Another participant shared: “For me, this was a lifelong dream come true, rich in both spiritual and physical nourishment. I’ve always dreamed of such a holiday, but I’ve never had the financial means to make it happen.”

Lazi shared, “It felt like I was reliving the days with my family, whom I no longer have near me.”

This unforgettable experience brought joy, healing, and lasting memories. The participants expressed deep gratitude for this extraordinary opportunity, which reminded them that they are seen, valued, and loved.
