To Bulgaria with love
The average Christmas box puts in a lot of miles before it reaches its recipient. When it leaves the home of the family or individual that put it together, or the school, church or company that made it up, the box might do two or even three hundred miles before it reaches our check and pack depot in Salisbury.
It’ll then do a lap around the depot as it is checked and packed before it makes a short hop of a few miles to the storage warehouse while it patiently waits for the Christmas box lorry to arrive.
Then it has four days of solid trucking to get the 1,500 road miles to Bulgaria done. After it is unloaded in Sofia, the box could be faced with a further 200 mile trip as far as Burgas. The box will be loaded into a van for a trip of perhaps another 30 miles before it reaches the hands of the child, man or woman it was intended for. 2,000 long miles for a smile! We want to say a big thank you to everybody who took in the 2025 Christmas Box Appeal. Over 6,500 Christmas boxes were donated by our supporters and together with another 450+ presents from our friends at World of Worth in Devon we shipped a total of 6,989 presents to Bulgaria last December. So maybe we could say 2,000 miles for 7,000 smiles…
If you put a box together, or donated some money towards shipping costs, or gave us some time to check and pack boxes, or collected boxes in your car or van, or helped us load the truck – thank you! We simply could not have done it with out you!
If you helped us unload the truck in Sofia, or helped to deliver Christmas boxes to a partner organisation or directly to recipients, or planned an event/party/celebration where boxes were distributed, or gave money towards the cost of the Christmas box warehouse – thank you too!
