Moldova’s economic and political instability have led to generations of its children to grow up without the prescence of one or both parents who seek work abroad for long stretches of their childhoods. Loss of social and childcare knowledge is leaving many of Moldova’s parents ill equipped to raise the next generation, and makes day-to-day family life a real struggle.

To combat this problem, Beginning of Life (BoL), our Moldovan partner organisation, includes parents and carers in their Early Years programmes. BoL recently collected feedback from 41 parents who participated in these programmes in 2025-26. In May, BoL asked them to share what they had learned, what changes they had made in their parenting, and what results they had already seen in their children and family life. There are many encouraging comments that show practical changes in families, including; fewer tantrums, stronger parent-child relationships, increased independence, improved emotional regulation, and spiritual growth.

Here is sample of the feedback gathered:

Learning: Time management    Applied: Using a timer and hourglass

"My 3-year-old became more disciplined and understands that everything has a beginning and an end. My 5-year-old started completing tasks more independently and more quickly".

Learning: Child’s self-care skills    Applied: Handing over responsibilities

"I started giving my 4-year-old daughter more household responsibilities. She now wants to help around the house, needs less assistance, and has become more independent".

Learning: Unconditional love    Applied: Postive reinforcement

"I stopped attaching conditions to my love and motivate my child positively. I punish my 5-year-old less and encourage them more. They became calmer, more obedient, and tantrums have almost disappeared".

Learning: Guilt    Applied: Forgiving past behaviour

"I learned to distinguish guilt from shame. I no longer remind my 6-year-old of mistakes they have already repented of".

Learning: Attachment    Applied: Letting the child say goodbye

"When my 5 or 3 year olds hug me, I don't let go until they are ready. My children confidently approach other people and can stay without me without tears or tantrums".

Learning: Emotions    Applied: Verbalising

"I verbalise emotions. Our whole family has become calmer".

Learning: Children & lying   Applied: Identifying behaviour

"I clearly point out when my 6-year-old is lying and distinguish imagination from dishonesty. My son lies less while remaining creative".
