Are you brave enough to take on the 100ft abseil challenge down the rock face of Uphill Quarry?
No experience necessary – expert guidance from experienced instructors will be provided on the day.
With spectacular views at the top, this opportunity is not to be missed while raising funds for the prevention of modern slavery and transforming the lives of at-risk young people in Southeast Europe, including Ukrainian refugees.
Whether you are fundraising as an individual, with a group of friends or part of a team building exercise, you are guaranteed to have a fun and exhilarating time!
There are time slots throughout the day with nine participants in each time slot – starts at 10:30. You will be able to book your time slot in advance of the day.
You will need to register to take part in the abseil challenge. The registration fee is £40 if you sign up before the end of July (£50 thereafter), and we suggest a target of £300 for your fundraising goal (this is not an expected minimum though!). You can register below.

Encouraging sponsors and collecting donations
Options for encouraging sponsors and collecting donations include Just Giving, or Stewardship where you can can search “House of Opportunity” under charities, and set up a fundraising page for your abseil challenge. These online donation sites will be able to transfer funds to us, and even take care of any Gift Aid, meaning you won’t have to worry about handling any money.
Alternatively, you can download a form here if you’ prefer to collect sponsorship money in yourself.

How much does it cost?
Registration is £40 if you register before the end of July, £50 thereafter. We suggest a sponsorship target of £300. Registration fees will covers all your costs of the equipment and experienced instructors. The money you raise will go straight towards the prevention of modern slavery, and transforming the lives of vulnerable young people.
How do I get there? From Bristol…
• Train: The train from Bristol Temple Meads runs every 30 minutes and takes just half an hour.
• Bus: You can catch the X1 Excel from Bristol Bus Station to Weston-super-Mare. It takes just over an hour.
• Drive: Take the M5 you’ll be in Weston in just 40 minutes
Is there any parking?
Yes there is plenty of parking up near the Uphill Wharf café Uphill Wharf, Uphill, Weston-Super-Mare BS23 4XR and our registration desk will be just beyond the café.
What happens when I get there?
When you arrive, head over to the registration desk where we will sign you on, once you have signed in, you will take part in a safety briefing with the instructors and a practice abseil before making your way to the abseil point. We anticipate the whole experience will take approx 1.5 hours.
Do I need to bring anything?
• Warm clothes – a long sleeved top and trousers (no short sleeves)
• Sensible footwear i.e. some sturdy walking boots or trainers (no flip flops or sandals
• Any medication you need to take on the day
• Waterproofs
• Food and water – there is a café if you prefer to get something from there
Are there any Age and Weight restrictions?
Yes, All participants must be aged 18 or over unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in which case anyone over the age of 14 can take part. There is no upper age limit, but we do strongly advice older participants to speak to their doctor beforehand.
Weight – Due to the restrictions on equipment, we can only accommodate people up to 20 stone, however if you are or know anyone who is heavier than 20 stone, then do contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss the possibility of participation with the events company.
Do I need to be fit?
No you don’t need to be fit for this event, however you do need to have reasonable mobility, able to climb stairs and jump a foot off the ground. If you have any doubts, then talk this through with you doctor.
Can I register as a team?
Yes absolutely! You can create a team even if you haven’t got all your team members yet, as they can be added later. There will be time slots throughout the day with nine people in each time slot. We do ask you to fill the earlier slots if possible.
What happens if the event doesn’t go ahead?
In the event of adverse weather i.e. thunder, lightning, or high winds we will postpone the event to another date and transfer your place to the new date.

Register to take part in the Abseil event
We are asking for a registration fee for each participant. This is to cover the costs of instructors and equipment use. The registration fee is £40 if you sign up before the end of July, £50 thereafter.
The registration fee can be paid by cheque if you’d prefer. Please make cheques payable to “FSCI (UK)” and send to: House of Opportunity, St Paul’s Church Centre, Fisherton Street, Salisbury, SP2 7QW.
